Many people use Rayong as a staging area for their trips to the islands in the area. However, if a long boat ride doesnit appeal to you, the beaches on the mainland are the best you will find so close to Bangkok.
Starting from Bangkok, Highway 3 passes through Chonburi, Si Racha, and Amphoe Sattahip.

Rayong. This area js connected to the Sattahip Naval Base and has many places to stay and restaurants to enjoy.

: Had Mae Rampueng beach is in the Khao Laem Ya-Mu Koh Samet National Park. The beaches here are beautiful and the water is clear. However, the ocean is very deep, so only competent swimmers should venture out.

: Ban Phe Pier is where most people catch the ferry out to Koh Samet.
Next to the pier is a lovely beach where you can divide you time between swimming and shopping.

: Had Suan Son is best known for the long lines of pine trees that outline the beach. This is the destination of choice for those of you that enjoy water-sports. Here you can find rental equipment for whichever activity you wish to take part in.

: The first section of Laem Mae Phim is the most beautiful. Near the peninsula you will find several restaurants serving outstanding seafood at very reasonable prices.
From Bangkok there are three ways to get here. The first is to
take Highway 3 past the Chonburi Province and on to Rayong. The second route is to take the expressway to Pattaya, then take Highway 26 to Rayong. Finally, you can take Highway 34 to Ban Bueng, then take Highway 344 to Rayong.
