   SRI MAHAMARIAMMAN TEMPLE

WAT GHINORASARAM WORAWIHAN
The temple was built in 1836 by Krom Phra Paramanuchitchinoros, the son of King Rama I, before he entered the monkhood.
It was renovated by command of king Rama IV, who employed artists to carve and paint pictures, especially of naga, the mythological serpent which adorns several parts of the temple.

Ubosot: The main chapel has a tiled roof with traditional decorations. The gables are decorated with gilded stucco ornamented with fragments of glass in the form of branches and flowers. The door and window arches are decorated with gilded stucco and glass mosaics in Western motifs. The interior door and window panels are painted in Chinese motifs. The outside window panels depicts a naga swimming in the clouds. The exterior door panels depict a Chinese deity holding a fan stepping on naga.

Murals: The paintings in the chapel are in several sections. On the wall facing the Buddha image is a map of the temple, the river, canals, the Grand Palace , and another temple in ruins. The outstanding feature of this mural is its black background. On the wall behind the Buddha image, celestial beings fly in a black sky. The pillars are painted red and adorned with Thai motifs.
