   WAT BENCHAMABOPHIT

WAT BENCHAMABOPHIT DUSITWANARAM RATCHAWORAWIHAN

When King Rama V commanded the building of the Dusit Palace, the area belonging to Dusit Temple and another deserted temple were used to construct the hall and for road. The tradition states that a new temple must be built instead; however, the king considered that building several temples would be a big burden for maintenance, but a bigger and more elaborate design would be a better choice. By royal command, HRH Prince Naris Nuvattiwongs designed the temple that was renamed to Wat Benchamabophit, meaning "Wat of King Rama V."

Ubosot: Considered "the perfect architecture of Thai arts", it was built from Italian marble. It is a four-sided structure with a four-tiered roof and a corridor in the back.

A Replica of Pra Buddha Chinarat: A main Buddha Image, under which placed the ashes of King Rama V.

Wat Benchamabophit National Museum: Local and foreign Buddha images from the period of King Rama V on have been displayed. Among the images, considered two of the most beautjful are the Sukhothai-style in Walking posture, an Subduing Mara (demon) posture.

The Bridges: Between the monk and people area are built in several styles for example cop bridge, tusk bridge and image bridge, etc.

An image of the Buddha seated cross-legged in the attitude subduing himself but fasting. This image, which show the (Greek) style of Gandhara sculptures, was cast after a stone original kept in the museum at Lahore, Pakistan.
