STATUE OF KING RAMA V
(EQUESTRIAN STATUE)
The bronze statue of King Rama V in field' marshal's uniform mounted on a horse was cast in Paris by a French sculptor in 1907 when the king visited Europe, and was shipped to Bangkok in 1908.
The statue stands six metres tall from the platform on which the horse stands to the top of the helmet. It is two metres wide and five metres in length. Attached to the front of the marble platform is an engraved bronze plate honouring the King.
Kjog Chulalongkorn is one of the best loved of all Thai kings. On October 23 each year, it representatives from government bodies, the military, the police, students and people of all occupations bring garlands, flowers, incense and candles to pa respect to the king and to commemorate the anniversary of his death. |
