SRI MAHAMARIAMMAN TEMPLE
SRI MAHAMARIAMMAN TEMPLE Built in 1879, Brahman (Hindu) temple of Shakti sect, which reveres this "mother of the god". Indians from Tamil Nadu in Southern Indian came to Southern Thailand and established community on Silom Canal. Traders and labour they built Sri Mahamariamman Temple to worship. Later, more land was purchased and a new temple built, which has been developed and renovated to the present day.
Inside is decorated with a principal image of Sri Mahamariamman (Uma Devi), surrounded Ganesha, Khandakumara, Krisna, Vishnu, Rasmi and Kali. In the courtyard is a small shrine containing a Shiva's Lingam (phallus). Built in Chola and Palva styles to be seen in Tamil Nadu. Daily rituals are carried out at noon.
