The Phu Luang Loei
Phu Luang is called the (Emerald of Isan) because of its vast array of plant life including their world famous orchids. Every conceivable type of orchid is grown in this area. In addition to plants, this is a wildlife sanctuary, which protects several species of animal as well. Location
The Phu Luang Wildlife Sanctuary is located in mountainous areas of Amphoe Wang Saphung, Amphoe Phu Rua, Amphoe Dan Sai, and Amphoe Phu Luang. The Wildlife Sanctuary Office is located in Amphoe Phu Luang. Highlights The Phu Luang Wildlife Sanctuary: Despite its being a wildlife sanctuary, the park officials allow people to visit Phu Luang. From here, it is possible to walk to the Khok Nok Kraba Ranger Unit, enabling you to enjoy two parks during the same trip.
Trees and Plants: Khok Nok Kraba
is a flat area with many areas set aside
to study and enjoy nature. Among the
more popular places are Pha Yuang,
Pha Somdet, Pha Taloen, Lan Suriyan,
Khok Phrommachan, and Pak Dum. Pak Dum is particularly
popular because of the heavy population of orchids that grow
here.
The Khok Nok Kraba Viewpoint: The Khok Nok Kraba Viewpoint can be reached by taking the path along the cliff, just east of the Ranger Unit Office. From atop the cliff you can see fields of red roses, the vast stone field of Pha Taloen, and the fossilized footprints of dinosaurs.
How to Get There
From the town of Loei, take Highway 203 to Ban Wang Saphung. Turn left at the Khok Nok Kraba Ranger Unit and continue driving for eighteen kilometers. The total distance from Loei is forty-seven kilometers.
