Near the town of Sukhothai, there stands a majestic mountain. From the summit, you can see the twinkling lights of the city below. Many hours can be spent in peaceful contemplation up above noise and bustle of the city.


Location
Khao Luang is a mountain located in the Ram Khamhaeng National Park. The park is in Amphoe Khirimat and Amphoe Muang in the Sukhothai Province. This mountain has four peaks which are connected by a path. The National Park Office is in Amphoe Khirimat.


Highlights

Khao Luang: To get to Khao Luang, you will have to hike four kilometers to the summit of the mountain. The trip takes between three and four hours. When you reach the top, you will have an expansive view of the national park below. In the area around the summit there are
several spots to set camp. Most visitors use this as their base when exploring the other four peaks.
In the morning, Naraishould be your first stop. Located only 400 meters away, this peak offers the best view of the sunrise. Phu Kha peak is located 2,200 meters away. In the afternoon, this peak allows you to see the entire valley below. From here it is 200 meters to Phra Mae Ya Peak. At 1,200 meters above sea level, this is the highest peak in the area. From here, it is on for 390 meters to ChedipeaWXo watch the sunset. In order to full appreciate the area, you should camp for one to two nights atop the summit.

How to Get There
From the town of Sukhothai, take Highway 101 for twenty kilometers past Amphoe Khirimat. Turn right at kilometer marker 414 and drive sixteen kilometers to the National Park Office. The total Distance from Sukhothai is thirty-six kilometers.
