The Mansion Kempinski is the first addition in
Thailand to the world-renowned Kempinski family of hotels. Opened on 10 July 1991, it is the perfect place to find great European hotel tradition meeting Thai hospitality.
With 127 large guest rooms on 14 floors, the luxury residential businessmen's hotel is tucked away quietly at the end of Sukhumvit Soi 11, close to embassies, fine shopping areas and many of the major office blocks. The expressway is just five minutes away, connecting to the international airport, the port, all the major highways as well as Thailand's Eastern Seaboard.
As the hotel was originally built as an apartment building by the President Park Group of Companies, all the rooms are extremely spacious and measure between 47 square metres and 72 square metres. All are equipped with remote-controlled colour television, video and CD players, for which 120 movie tapes and 100 CDs are available for use at no charge. The bathrooms are all marble and feature a separate shower plus a
magnifying make-up mirror and a hair dryer. With the writing desk providing PC and fax connections, a large sitting area, personal safe and its incredible residential atmosphere, The Mansion Kempinski is right on target for the needs of the executive business traveller. In the lobby, traditional European and Asian elements work in harmony to create a calm atmosphere. Colours are subdued and blend with the marbles and granites used in the decorative floor patterns. Chandeliers bring soft warm light throughout. There is no long reception counter; all Mansion Kempinski guests are seated at individual desks for checking in and checking out.
The Lobby Bar is an active centre of the hotel. Large comfortable chairs make it an excellent place for executives to wind down after a busy day, and holiday-makers to reflect on their sightseeing. The bar counter is reminiscent of traditional European style, complete with large oil paintings and bar stools around.
Delicious culinary specialities of both
European and Thai origins can be found at The Kempinski Terrace, reachable via an elegant marble staircase from the lobby. Verdant planting is evident with large trees being used to great advantage in and out of the restaurant. A garden terrace has outdoor tables, amidst orchids and palms, trickling water and the calm and serenity evoked by a small shrine, which is constantly bedecked with flowers and offerings. The mood is of elegant, intimate dining with exquisite food and wines.
Similarly, the pool on the upper first floor is surrounded by trees and plants, giving privacy to sun seekers and swimmers. A Jacuzzi nestled into a corner provides an excellent opportunity to soothe away the stresses with a refreshing drink from the pool-side bar.
The room decor is in traditional European grace, including timber wall panelling, brass four-poster beds and elegant furniture. The best of Thai crafts are evident in artworks, silk bedspreads and antique furniture and pots. The skills of Thai carpet makers are unmistakable in the many loose rugs used in the conservatory areas of the rooms along with high-quality rattan and woven cane furniture which also reflect the tropical environment of the
East. The use of traditional ceiling fans and green pot plants further accents this atmosphere. Room colour schemes have been kept soft and calm.
The Presidential Suite develops these themes in more depth, incorporating a formal dining room, study and reception area with a grand staircase to the master bedroom which can also be connected to two further bedrooms with their own bathrooms, all in rich marble. Crystal chandeliers create an effect of elegant space. The traditional European study embraces bookshelves, leather chairs as well as antique furniture and has access to the large balcony overlooking the city. The balcony has a table for meetings or entertainment and a large awning can be drawn across to keep out the sun or rain.
The Mansion Kempinski also operates a fleet of BMW 7 series cars. A telephone in each car is just part of the service. Kempinski Hotels are global partners of Dusit Hotels & Resorts, Lufthansa German Airlines, and Thai Airways' Royal Orchid Plus.
