Ao Phang-nga
Ao Phang-nga is one of the most famous beaches in Thailand. While many people don't know its actual name, people all over the world can recognize the mushroom shaped rock that stared in the James Bond movie "The Man with the Golden Gun".
Location
The Phang-nga area consists of forty islands and lies in Amphoe Muang, Amphoe Takua Thung, and Amphoe Koh Yao in the Phang-nga Province.
Highlights ʶҹ·Õè¹èÒʹ㨠Koh Pan Yi: Koh Pan Yi is the small island where the James Bond movie was filmed. Today, the spies have left, but there is still a Muslim fishing community that makes their living here. The houses are all connected by a wooden walkway. When taking a stroll, you can see how the locals live and enjoy some wonderful seafood while you're at it. Khao Phing Kan: This mountain gained its name from the large diagonal crack, which makes the mountain appear as if it where actually two leaning on each other. There are bridges around the island, so you can walk around it. Tham Lod: Tham Lod is a seventy-meter deep cave. The best way to see the stalagmites and stalactites is by boat. Tham Phi Hua To: This is another cave in the area. Inside, in addition to the beautiful stalactites and stalagmites, there are many prehistoric cave paintings. Koh Yao Noi and Koh Yao Yai: are located near Ao Phang-nga. These peaceful islands have beautiful beaches and people who still retain their traditional lifestyles. There are few accommodations, but the sights are well worth the trip. You can get here by boat leaving from the Bang Rong Pier in Phuket.
How to Get There
From the town of Phang-nga, take Highway 4 to Khok Loi. Drive for four kilometers before turning left on to Highway 4144. From here, continue driving for four kilometers until you reach the National Park Office. The total distance from Pangna is eight kilometers. You can then take a boat from either the Tha Dan, Surakun, or Ka Som Piers in Amphoe Takua Thung.
